Kebayoran Baru Intensifies Illegal Parking Prevention for Nightlife Visitors

The South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency conducted a sudden inspection targeting nightlife patrons along Jalan Gunawarman, Jalan Suryo, and the Senopati area in Kebayoran Baru Sub-district who were parking their vehicles on sidewalks and road bodies.

South Jakarta Operational Handling Section Head, Alfian Michiels, the sudden inspection was done in response to public grievances, especially regarding the rights of pedestrians.

"Last night, we deployed a joint task force of about 30 personnel, including the police, army, Satpol PP, and other related units, to take direct action at the site," he noted, Thursday (4/23).

He explained that officers discovered valet services illegally occupying the sidewalk area and immediately issued a warning to the management.

Despite attempts by the management to stall, citing limited space, South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency personnel took firm action by removing valet booths and umbrella tents from the sidewalk.

"This is a busy commercial area with many visitors. However, the parking capacity is only for about three to four cars. While they use valet services, we still found vehicles parked illegally on public facilities," he clarified.

He called on parking attendants to refrain from blocking disability-friendly infrastructure. He specifically demanded that the tactile guiding blocks not be obstructed by any items.

"We ask that the guiding block lines are not obstructed. They are vital facilities for the access of persons with disabilities," he noted.

He added that personnel from Satpol PP and Transportation Agency (Dishub) will later remain stationed to patrol illegal parking hotspots. This is expected to alleviate the traffic congestion that frequently arises from the misuse of roads and sidewalks.

"We'll also coordinate with relevant units—specifically the Parking Management Unit (UPP Perparkiran)—to ensure that valet services are better regulated," he added.

In the meantime, one local resident, Rahmat (53), stated that the traffic jams in the Senopati district during the night are a result of the large number of patrons visiting restaurants and nightlife venues using their own cars.

He hopes that the supervision of illegal parking can be further strengthened to maintain order and traffic efficiency in the neighborhood.

"With so many entertainment venues and restaurants, most visitors arrive by car. Since parking space is insufficient, vehicles end up crowding the streets," he added.
